Jesus had a premonition or a inspiration that he was to take His closest friends and go up to a high place. There, He was transfigured—His clothes becoming like light and His face shining and splendid. Then Moses and Elijah were with Him, just as physical as He was—suggesting something about the afterlife.

But God’s purpose in drawing Jesus and His friends up this mountain became plain in God’s voice. This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him (Lk.9:35). God was talking to Jesus more than to the saints.

Peter would later profess their faith in Jesus: You are the Son of God.  But these things were too high for them and they did not  understand. Maybe it’s the same with us.
